Here are the before pictures:
TEAR DOWN BEGINS
08/18/01
So I started it twice and decided it was time to rip it apart and begin the process:
4/28/02 – Back from Powdercoat
They used a special process where they BURN the old paint off and then sandblast and powdercoat. I must say it turned out really nice. The surface is very smooth and the powdercoat is a deep gloss black.
Tanks are a pain – Any dents and you are out of luck and it is time for bodywork. Plus it is always good to seal the interior. I use a product called POR15 – And it works great – Its a 3 step process and it kills everything inside and then seals the tank.
Sadly I need to do bodywork and then have the tank custom painted
PROJECT – 1969′ Z50AK1 – 1996′ – 2001′
THE PROJECT – Build a 1969 Z-50 (a Little Better!)
First we designed a new (higher performance) exhaust system! What we ended up with is the sound of an XR-600 in an 85cc Z-50 And it makes POWER! Like you would not believe.Of course the Takagawa 85cc Big-Bore kit helps also!
Check out Motion Pro for Custom Throttle Assemblies
I had to do something with that stock throttle – It stuck, and was dangerous. Way too much power for a sticky throttle! So I called Motion Pro and they had the answer – a regular twist throttle with a custom cable – 90deg bend in the carb end and it full throttle here I come. This bike is turning out to be down right scary!
Carb and 85cc Big Bore Kit Installed
This kit was very complete and easy to install. Everything comes assembled. The only problem we ran into was the larger carburetor and the intake elbow. We ended up having to cut -twist & re-weld the elbow to make the carb fit. But, no matter what the cost the result is well worth it. TRUST ME! This bike is a weapon!
Some shots of the entire bike!
